How to start homeschooling in New York: the steps in order

New York's home instruction rule is 8 NYCRR 100.10. Here is the order the paperwork goes in, with the deadlines from the regulation.

What to plan for

The IHIP lists the subjects required for your child's grade (see what an IHIP must include). Instruction hours: "The cumulative hours of instruction for grades 1 through 6 shall be 900 hours per year. The cumulative hours of instruction for grades 7 through 12 shall be 990 hours per year." NYSED also says "Parents are required to keep attendance records for each student".
